Author

Dr Richard Swainson gained the first doctorate in Film Studies awarded at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.   He was the film critic for “Nexus”, the Waikato University student magazine, from 1992 through 1994,  and resumed writing for the same publication in 2007 with weekly, cinema related articles.   Dr Swainson delivers regular film reviews on Community Radio Hamilton and Contact 88.1 FM, the University of Waikato’s student station, and contributes DVD reviews to both “Uno” magazine and “The Waikato Times”.   In the late 1990s he was the regional film reviewer for Prime television and also produced original material for Big TV, an independent station broadcast out of the University of Waikato.

Dr Swainson’s opinion column, an idiosyncratic commentary on sport, religion, politics and/or whatever might be on its author’s mind at the time, is published every Tuesday in “The Waikato Times”.
