Media Release: The Film Show

Andrew Johnstone and Richard Swainson love movies.  They are looking to share the love with the greater Waikato and, via streaming and podcasts, the world.  Andrew and Richard are about to launch The Film Show on Community Radio Hamilton.  Broadcast weekly, The Film Show combines commentary and reviews of contemporary movies with retrospectives on genres, directors and stars.

If anyone in Hamilton is up to the challenge, these guys are.  Between them they keep Auteur House, an independent DVD rental store, going for 84 hours a week.  Auteur House specialises in classic and world cinema so the pair are well versed in the medium.

“Doctor” Richard gained the first doctorate in Film Studies awarded by the University of Waikato and has an extensive background as an amateur critic, writing for sundry magazines and newspapers and having experience in live television and radio.  The Film Show will be his first attempt to front a programme dedicated solely to the movies.

Andrew is a musician and fine artist whose enthusiasm for cinema is no less passionate or intelligent for coming from a lay perspective.  Rehearsals suggest he might agree with Richard at least once per episode but there certainly is no guarantee of this.

Andrew and Richard plan to engage a lively audience with their
self-described “witty and erudite banter”.  In addition to featuring guests of substance and genuine filmic experience they’ll ‘open the lines’, encouraging listener feedback and debate on air.

The Film Show debuts Sunday 28 March at 10pm, on Community Radio Hamilton
[AM1206, FM 106.7 and streamed live via www.communityradio.co.nz]
